FAMILY COUNSELING |

I worked with my first family in 1980 and enjoyed many years of association with Ramon Corrales and Larry Ro-Trocktwo family therapists with great approaches to helping families.
In addition, my training with families included Carl Whitaker, Peggy Papp, Jay Haley, and I worked very closely with Virginia Satir. She was on my dissertation committee when I pursued my doctorate in clinical psychology. It was through that association that I studied conflict resolution with her. She was a master therapist and key founder of the field of family therapy. You can read more about her on her website at www.avanta.net. The essential goals of family and couple therapy Satir taught me were these two: she said that in a healthy marriage or family, you need to be able to say what you experience, good or bad, and ask for what you want. While such goals may appear to be simpleand they arenevertheless, these goals are profound destinations for creating the open communication that allows couples and families to bring about the fulfillment of healthy values. |
